Track Name: Alderson Close
board up the windows
lay flowers on the doorstep
candlelight vigil
angels and horses
angels and horses
carry them away
it's quiet in the neighbourhood
and the evening fades

you never know the darkest side
until it hits so close to home
blood in the streets, a mother of five
found dead in alderson close
blood in the streets, a troubled mind
found dead in alderson close

she believed that of all the words
of mice and men
the saddest of them all
are 'it might have been'
I believe the saddest are
'now that it's too late'
it's quiet in the neighbourhood
and the evening fades

you never know the darkest side
until it hits so close to home
blood in the streets, a mother of five
found dead in alderson close
blood in the streets, a troubled mind
found dead in alderson close
Track Name: Breaking My Heart
in Cohen’s alleluia, in the steps of Notre Dame
in the depths of the atlantic, in the thunder when it rains
on highway 21 headed east to my hometown
in the sun when it comes up, in the sun when it comes down

the reflection in the window as I slowly strike a match
smoke from a midnight cigarette as I choke it back
the slow rise in traffic once it hits late afternoon
no matter where it is I can’t help but find a little piece of you

everywhere I turn, everywhere I go
everywhere I turn, baby there you are
and it’s breaking my heart

in the eyes of a stranger, in the face of all my friends
in monday morning coffee, in friday night plans
at the bottom of a bottle, at the end of a line
at the back of a bar room on a saturday night

everywhere I turn, everywhere I go
everywhere I turn, baby there you are
and it’s breaking my heart

in rumours and whispers, in poetry and prose
underneath blankets, in every thorn of a rose
in every rock and roll song and when I hear the blues
no matter where it is I can’t help but find a little piece of you

everywhere I turn, everywhere I go
everywhere I turn, baby there you are
and it’s breaking my heart
Track Name: Gas Station Flowers
gas station flowers on the north side of the city
perfect for those occasions I forget
I’ve been driving to the silence of a broken radio
the highway ain’t through fooling me yet
oh the highway ain’t through fooling me yet

I went to bed last night so drunk and so stoned
my dreams were heaven sent
there was the first girl that I ever loved
you know she ain’t through fooling me yet
no she ain’t through fooling me yet

just when I thought it was over
just when I thought I had lost
just as I find another reason to let go
I find another to hold on

I was just a kid when we lost Richard in ‘06
the first man I watch slip into death
there are still moments when I can hear his call
I ain’t through fooling myself yet
no I ain’t through fooling myself yet

just when I thought it was over
just when I thought I had lost
just as I find another reason to let go
I find another to hold on
Track Name: Looking At You
we had stars in our eyes, two kids looking for the sunshine love can bring
the angel band would join right in and I used to sit and listen to them sing
you said, ‘you’re not like the rest of them, or like any other place I’ve been’
I said, ‘baby I can feel it too, and only when I’m looking at you’

when love comes so easy you don’t want to stop and close your eyes
caught up in the notion of finding such a sweet surprise
you said, ‘you’re a little hard to figure out, give me something to clear my doubt’
I said, ‘love is something I never knew until I found myself looking at you’

as quickly as it finds you, that’s how fast that love can leave you behind
and no matter how far away you get, you’ll always be so close in my mind
I found a new girl who took my hand but I could hardly hold it back
I know I’m just bound to lose because when I look at her, I’m looking at you
Track Name: Lucinda Williams
‘Hey, how’re doing’ that’s all I’d ask
‘how are you?’ and I’d leave it at that
they’re playing Lucinda Williams at the bar tonight
there’s something about what happens when we talk
I just want to talk

I’ve cleaned myself up, you’d be happy to know
it took a little while but that’s how those things can go
baby if you could see me now
there’s something about what happens when we talk
I just want to talk

lord bless the bar singers who pour their hearts out all night long
and bless the third stringers who bust their ass for the last spot
and bless that crooked road that’s led you away
it’s the same damn road that led you straight through me

I keep your photograph in a picture frame
blue eyes fade to grey
It feels so silly holding on to you
but there’s something about what happens when we talk
I just want to talk

lord bless the bar singers who pour their hearts out all night long
and bless the third stringers who bust their ass for the last spot
and bless that crooked road that’s led you away
it’s the same damn road that led you straight through me
Track Name: My Cousin Peter
my cousin peter bought a house, a little box on the hill
him and his new fiancée, will move in and pay the bills
utilities and mortgage, property tax
he’s going to work all damn day, just to go home and relax

my cousin peter bought a house, a place to build his new life
fill it up with the memories that he’ll make with his new bride
thanksgiving dinner and birthdays, visits with old friends
pictures of their weekend trips and new decoration trends

my cousin peter bought a house, a future playground for his kids
maybe he’ll bring two along, that’s what his parents did
diapers and pyjamas will turn to college and car keys
and my cousin peter’s kids will move out and find their feet

my cousin peter’s kids will find a place of their own
somewhere in the neighborhood, they’ll move in and make it their new home
utilities and mortgage, property tax
they’re going to work all damn day, just to go home and relax
Track Name: The Right Side
I met her in a flower dress, it wasn’t a dress to impress
it was more for comfort in a summer sweat, it was a summer dress
hungover from a long night out, she said, ‘hello’ I said, ‘please don’t shout
how ‘bout some coffee to settling things down, it’s been a long night out’

she seemed to like me despite my state, I saw her again, again and again
saw her in sun, saw her in rain, saw her despite my state
I started thinking a little about love and part of me couldn’t get away fast enough
ain’t it funny what your mind and body does, when you think about love

she took the right side, I took the left
she held me as I laughed and as I wept
there were moments when the whole world felt like mine
so long as she walked the right side

old habits are hard to break, even when your life’s at stake
always looking for a quick escape, old habits are hard to break
when happiness is so far gone, you find a little and just hold on
but it never ever really lasts that long, until its gone

she took the right side, I took the left
she held me as I laughed and as I wept
there were moments when the whole world felt like mine
so long as she walked the right side
